The RoboForex ProCent account.

The RoboForex ProCent account.

RoboForex introduced cent accounts early in its history as a way for clients to test Expert Advisors and take their first steps in real trading with little money. Its ProCent page explains the idea: the account uses units a hundred times smaller than the base currency, such as US cents or euro cents, while trading conditions are the same as on standard accounts. Deposit 10 USD and your account shows 1,000 US cents.

RoboForex markets ProCent for testing strategies, EAs and algorithmic trading, and for moving smoothly from demo to real money.

How cent lots work

On a cent account, a lot is measured in cents, so one cent lot is a hundredth of a standard lot in dollar terms. A 1-cent-lot EUR/USD trade moves about 10 US cents per pip, the same as 0.01 standard lot on a Pro account. RoboForex's copy trading rules confirm the conversion: cent to standard divides volume by 100.

Leverage on ProCent

ProCent supports leverage up to 1:2000, reduced to 1:1000 from 23:00 Friday to 01:00 Saturday (EET) and when equity exceeds $10,000. Very high leverage on a tiny balance is still risky: a few bad trades can reach the 30% stop out. Our RoboForex leverage guide explains the rules.

What to use ProCent for

  • Running an Expert Advisor with real money before scaling up.
  • Bridging the gap from demo to standard live trading.
  • Trading with a very small budget while keeping proper stops.
  • Comparing a strategy's live fills with its demo results.

Programs on ProCent

ProCent accounts qualify for RoboForex's rebates and its 'up to 10% on account balance' program, though cent account rebate rates are ten times lower than on Pro accounts. Our RoboForex cashback guide works through the numbers.

Limitations

  • Only 28 currency pairs, metals and crypto; no stock or index CFDs.
  • Trade history is kept for only one month, so download statements regularly.
  • The 200-position cap on MT4 can restrict grid EAs.

Moving up to a standard account

When your results are steady, open a Pro or ECN account in the same Members Area. Copy trading between cent and standard accounts converts volume automatically, which lets you follow the same strategy at a larger size. Our RoboForex account types guide compares them.

Cent accounts for EA testing

RoboForex built its cent accounts partly for testing Expert Advisors. An EA that looks good on a demo can behave differently with real fills, real spreads and the slight delays of a live server. Running it on ProCent with a small balance shows those effects while keeping losses in cents.

Set the EA's lot size in cent lots as you would in standard lots, then compare live results with your demo over at least a few weeks. If performance holds up, move the EA to a Pro or ECN account at a small standard size, or to a VPS so it runs around the clock.

Risk on a small balance

A small balance doesn't mean small risk in percentage terms. With leverage up to 1:2000 on ProCent, it is easy to open positions that put most of the account at risk, and the 30% stop out will close them quickly. Use the same rules you would on a bigger account: a stop on every trade and a loss limit of 1% to 2% of the balance.

The advantage of cents is that those percentages translate into sensible position sizes even on $10 or $20, which a standard account can't offer.

Record keeping

Because ProCent keeps trade history for only one month, download a statement from MetaTrader or the Members Area at the end of each month. Without it, you lose the record you need to judge if your strategy is ready for a bigger account.

ProCent vs a demo

A demo account and a ProCent account can look similar, since both let you trade at tiny size. The difference is that ProCent uses real money and real fills. You feel the loss of even a few dollars, which is the best preparation for trading larger sums. Fills and slippage are real too, so the results tell you more about how a strategy behaves live.

Many traders use both: a demo to learn the platform and a strategy's mechanics, then ProCent to test discipline and live execution before moving to a Pro or ECN account.

Copying with a cent account

ProCent accounts can subscribe to Traders in RoboForex's Copy Trading Service, which converts volumes between cent and standard accounts automatically in classic and fixed modes. Trades in instruments ProCent doesn't offer, such as stock CFDs, are skipped. Copy trading still needs $100 on the account.

Ten dollars in a ProCent account isn't a lot of money, but it is real money, and that changes how most people trade. The discipline you build managing a small live balance carries straight over to bigger accounts later.

When you move up, keep the same rules. The point of the cent account is to prove a process, and that process should carry over unchanged to a larger balance.

ProCent is RoboForex's best feature for beginners. Use it to prove a strategy with real money and real emotions, and download your statements monthly, because the account only keeps one month of history.
