XM vs Roboforex
RoboForex hands you more of almost everything: 12,000+ instruments, leverage up to 1:2000, cheaper raw-spread accounts, and no inactivity fee. XM counters with something you can't see on a features list, stronger regulation and investor protection. This comparison shows which trade-off makes sense for you.
If you line up XM and RoboForex on paper, RoboForex looks like it wins almost every row. It offers more instruments, higher leverage, more account types, and lower costs on its commission accounts. So why would anyone pick XM? Because the one area where XM clearly leads, regulation, is the area that protects your money if something goes wrong. That tension runs through this whole comparison, so let’s start there rather than burying it at the end.
Regulation and Safety
XM runs under a few respected regulators, including CySEC in Cyprus, ASIC in Australia, and the FSCA in South Africa. In some regions that also means you’re covered by a compensation scheme, which can return your money up to a set limit if the broker collapses.
RoboForex is licensed in Belize by the FSC. That’s an offshore regulator, and it sits below the tier that XM’s main licenses belong to. There’s no compensation fund behind it. RoboForex does cover some of that gap: your money stays in a separate account from the company’s own, you get negative balance protection, and the broker carries EUR 2.5 million in liability insurance as a Financial Commission member. For a lot of traders that’s reassuring enough. It still isn’t the same as sitting under a top regulator, and a beginner deserves to know that plainly before signing up.
Neither broker is licensed by the FCA, so UK traders miss out at both.

Spreads shift through the day, so read these as normal-hours figures rather than fixed prices. Worth confirming the current commission numbers on each broker’s own site before you rely on them, since these move.
Trading Costs
Both let you trade raw spreads, which already puts them ahead of a lot of rivals. XM’s Zero account runs at 0.0 pips and charges around $3.50 a side, so roughly $7 for a full round trip. RoboForex undercuts that. Its ECN commission sits near $2 a lot, and the Prime account goes lower again.
The no-commission accounts lean the same way. RoboForex’s Pro starts near 1.3 pips against XM’s 1.6 on Standard. Tiny on a single trade. Not tiny once you’ve placed a few hundred of them.
Then there’s the idle fee, which catches people out. XM charges $15 once your account sits untouched for three months, then $10 every month after that. RoboForex charges nothing for leaving it alone. If you’re the kind of trader who goes quiet for a while and comes back, that’s real money saved.
What You Can Trade
RoboForex lists over 12,000 things you can trade. XM lists around 1,400. That’s the number that jumps off the page.
Read the small print though. Nearly all of RoboForex’s range lives on its own R StocksTrader platform, which is where the thousands of real stocks and ETFs come from. Stick with MT4 or MT5 and you’re back down to about a hundred-odd CFDs. So the 12,000 figure is real, but only if you actually use RoboForex’s platform instead of MetaTrader. Good to know before you get excited about it.
RoboForex also gives you more account types, a proper cent account for practising with tiny sums, leverage up to 1:2000 against XM’s 1:1000, free copy trading, and free VPS hosting if you run automated strategies. XM’s setup is simpler and more limited.
Platforms and Education
MT4 and MT5 on both. XM adds its own app, and more usefully for a newcomer, it actually teaches you. There are webinars, tutorials, and in some regions a no-deposit bonus that lets you trade live without putting your own cash in first. Paired with the stronger regulation, that makes XM the gentler place to start.
RoboForex answers with R StocksTrader. Reviewers tend to rate it above MetaTrader, and it has a strategy builder for people who want to automate without writing code. It’s a good platform. It just points more at traders who already know their way around than at complete beginners, even though the $10 cent account makes it cheap to try.
Which One Should You Choose?
If you want the widest choice of markets, the highest leverage, the lowest costs on raw accounts, and a stock lineup that dwarfs XM’s, and you’re comfortable trusting an offshore broker that leans on insurance rather than a top-tier license, RoboForex is your pick. It simply gives you more.
If you’d rather trade a smaller menu in exchange for a broker that’s regulated harder and won’t leave you unprotected if things go wrong, go with XM. For most people opening their very first account with a small amount of money, that protection and the beginner education are worth more than the extra features. That’s the trade you’re weighing. Everything else is detail.
