RoboForex's licence and protections, from its regulation page.

RoboForex Ltd is a brokerage company that has been operating since 2009. According to its regulation page, it is registered with the Financial Services Commission (FSC) of Belize under the Securities Industry Act 2021, with registration and licence number 9759600, to trade in securities as principal and as agent, manage securities and give investment advice. Its registered office is at 2118 Guava Street, Belama Phase 1, Belize City.

On top of that offshore licence, RoboForex layers several protections of its own: membership of the Financial Commission and its compensation fund, an execution audit, civil liability insurance and negative balance protection. Each one does a different job, and together they set the real level of safety.

The FSC Belize licence

The Financial Services Commission is the statutory body that regulates Belize's non-bank financial sector, including securities business. RoboForex says its registration and authorised activities can be checked on the FSC's list of registrants and on the FSC's LicenSys validation portal, both on the FSC's website. Belize is an offshore jurisdiction: its rules are lighter than those of regulators such as ASIC in Australia or CySEC in the EU, and there's no statutory investor compensation scheme.

RoboForex Ltd is the only company named in its footer as the broker for its clients. Check that name on your account agreement.

The Financial Commission and its fund

RoboForex joined the Financial Commission in 2014. The Commission is an independent dispute-resolution body for its member brokers; RoboForex says applications can be made in English, Russian, Spanish or Chinese and are answered within seven days, and that its decisions are binding on members. As an 'A' category member, RoboForex is also in the Commission's Compensation Fund, which pays up to €20,000 per case if a member refuses to follow a Commission judgment in a client's favour.

The fund is funded by members: RoboForex says 10% of the monthly fees paid by member companies go into a segregated account. It isn't a deposit guarantee; it only pays when a judgment has been made and the broker doesn't honour it.

Other protections

ProtectionWhat RoboForex says it does
Negative balance protectionResets a negative account balance to zero
Civil liability insuranceCovers up to €2,500,000 for errors, omissions, fraud and negligence; no fee to clients
Verify My Trade auditMonthly review of 5,000 anonymised trades against market averages, since 2018
Two-factor authenticationSMS or app codes for logins, withdrawals and transfers

RoboForex describes its negative balance protection as a permanent promotional program and reserves the right to deny it to a client without giving a reason. Treat it as a strong practice rather than an absolute guarantee.

Countries RoboForex doesn't serve

RoboForex's website footer says RoboForex Ltd and its partners don't work in the USA, Canada, Japan, Australia, Brazil, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, Belarus, South Sudan and several other territories. Its marketing isn't aimed at UK residents, and its advertising isn't aimed at Malaysian residents.

The risk warning

RoboForex's website states that 75.85% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs with it. That figure is typical of the industry and is a useful reminder: regulation protects you from a broker's misconduct, not from trading losses.

How safe is RoboForex?

RoboForex has a long track record and goes further than many offshore brokers by adding a compensation fund, insurance and an execution audit. Its core licence, though, is from an offshore regulator, so clients don't get the protections of a top-tier authority. Size your deposit with that in mind and withdraw profits regularly. Compare it with RoboForex vs IC Markets and XM vs RoboForex.

Protect your own account

  • Turn on two-factor authentication in the Members Area.
  • Use different passwords for the Members Area, trading accounts and wallets, as RoboForex requires.
  • Only deposit from payment methods in your own name; RoboForex refuses third-party funds.
  • Verify your account early; withdrawals are only available to verified clients.

Offshore vs top-tier regulation

Regulators differ in how closely they supervise brokers and what they promise clients. Top-tier authorities such as the UK's FCA, Australia's ASIC or Cyprus's CySEC set strict capital rules, require client money to be held in specific ways and, in many cases, back clients with a statutory compensation scheme. Offshore regulators, including Belize's FSC, license companies and supervise their securities business, but with lighter requirements and no statutory compensation fund.

That doesn't make an offshore broker unsafe, but it moves more of the protection onto the broker's own arrangements. In RoboForex's case, those are its Financial Commission membership, the €20,000 compensation fund, the €2.5 million civil liability insurance and its negative balance protection. Clients should weigh those together rather than relying on the licence alone.

Execution quality checks

Since 2018, RoboForex has been audited by Verify My Trade, a partner of the Financial Commission that analyses how brokers execute orders. RoboForex says it sends 5,000 depersonalised client trades for analysis every month, and that they are compared with the results of other companies. To keep its certificate, its figures have to stay in line with market averages.

An execution audit can't guarantee you a good fill on any single trade, but it does give an independent check that a broker isn't systematically filling clients at worse prices than the market. Combined with the Financial Commission's dispute process, it gives clients more recourse than many offshore brokers offer.

RoboForex is a useful case of an offshore broker building its own safety net: Financial Commission membership, a compensation fund and insurance. Those help, but they don't turn a Belize licence into an ASIC one, so keep your exposure proportionate.

Arif checked RoboForex's FSC registration on the regulator's website before opening an account, and noted the Financial Commission's €20,000 compensation limit. He kept his balance at about $1,500, enabled two-factor authentication, and withdrew profits on RoboForex's free-withdrawal Tuesdays.
