RoboForex Copy Trading Service: How to Copy, Fees and Copying Modes
RoboForex's Copy Trading Service, formerly CopyFX, lets you copy Traders from $100 on MT4, MT5 or R StocksTrader. You choose proportional, classic or fixed copying, can follow up to 10 Traders per account, and pay only a performance fee of 5% to 50% on new profit. Here is how it works.
RoboForex launched its own copy trading system in 2012 under the name CopyFX and renamed it the Copy Trading Service in 2025. It connects Traders, who share their strategies and earn commission, with Investors, who copy them automatically. RoboForex's Help Center says it is fully integrated with the broker's systems, so copying happens on its servers with barely any delay, and Investors don't even need a trading platform installed.
It is one of the more detailed copy trading systems we've reviewed, with three copying modes and transparent fee rules.
| Minimum | $100, or the Trader's own minimum |
|---|---|
| Platforms | MT4, MT5 (hedge), R StocksTrader (hedge) |
| Traders per account | Up to 10 |
| Copying modes | Proportional, classic, fixed |
| Fee | Performance fee 5% to 50%, high watermark |
| Not supported | Demo, netting, cross-platform copying |
Getting started as an Investor
- Open a real account: any MT4 account, or a hedge account on MT5 or R StocksTrader.
- Deposit at least $100 through Funds, then Deposit funds.
- Go to Copy Trading, then Traders Rating, and open a Trader's profile.
- Choose your copying mode and settings, then subscribe.
RoboForex suggests a Pro account on MT4 if you're unsure, as it is the most popular choice among Traders and gives access to the most strategies.
Choosing a Trader
The Traders Rating shows profit, yield, maximum drawdown, balance and number of Investors, with filters by period and commission scheme. Yield is compounded across periods separated by deposits and withdrawals; drawdown is the largest drop of equity below balance. The Rating updates within minutes rather than in real time, and excludes accounts with equity under $50 for three days or a yield of -90% or worse for ten days.
The three copying modes
| Mode | How volume is set | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Proportional | Your equity ÷ Trader's equity × volume × coefficient | $2,000 ÷ $8,000 × 2 lots × 1 = 0.5 lots |
| Classic | Trader's volume × your multiplier | 3 lots × 0.5 = 1.5 lots |
| Fixed | The same volume on every trade | 0.10 lots, whatever the Trader trades |
Examples from RoboForex's Help Center. You can also choose to round down copied volumes; if the result is below the minimum, the trade is skipped.
What it costs
Most Traders charge a performance fee of 5% to 50% of the profit made from copying them. It is calculated at the end of each investment period (1, 2 or 4 weeks) or when you unsubscribe, after swaps and ECN or Prime commissions. Crucially, it uses a high watermark: you only pay on new profit above your previous peak.
| Period | Your total profit | New profit (delta) | Fee at 10% |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | $100 | $100 | $10 |
| 2 | $150 | $50 | $5 |
| 3 | $140 | -$10 | $0 |
The fee is reserved on your account and transferred to the Trader at the end of the period, on Monday at midnight server time. Some Traders charge no commission at all to attract subscribers.
Managing subscriptions
- Pause: stops new trades being copied; existing copied trades continue to follow the Trader.
- Cancel: stops copying; open copied trades stay open for you to manage, and any due commission is deducted within minutes.
- Trades you open yourself on the same account pay the Trader no commission.
- You can withdraw at any time, except commission already reserved for the Trader.
Why trades might not copy
- Your subscription is still pending approval (By Request Traders).
- The Trader hasn't opened a new trade since you subscribed.
- Your funds are too low for the calculated volume.
- The instrument isn't available on your account type, such as stocks on ProCent.
- Pause is on, or rounding down took the volume to zero.
Pending orders aren't copied; only executed trades are.
Cent and standard accounts
You can copy across account types on the same platform, for example a ProCent Trader from a Pro account. In classic and fixed modes, volumes are converted automatically: divided by 100 from cent to standard and multiplied by 100 the other way. Copying between platforms, such as MT4 to MT5, isn't supported.
Becoming a Trader
Traders open any real MT4, or hedge MT5 or R StocksTrader account, deposit at least $100, and set their commission scheme, investment period and extra settings such as a minimum deposit, instant or by-request subscriptions and a strategy description. Main conditions can be changed once every 24 hours and take effect on Monday. Our RoboForex account types guide helps with the account choice.
RoboForex is clear that Investors are fully responsible for their results, including losses. Copying a strong Rating record doesn't protect you from a bad month.
Picking settings
Proportional mode is the most forgiving starting point, because copied volume scales with your equity relative to the Trader's. A coefficient below 1 makes your copied trades smaller still. Classic and fixed modes can produce volumes that are too large for a small account, so use them only when you understand the Trader's typical position sizes.
Diversifying across Traders
One of the simplest ways to cut risk in copy trading is to spread money across several Traders with different styles and instruments. RoboForex allows up to 10 subscriptions per account, and you can use several accounts for different strategies. A forex swing trader, a gold scalper and a long-term index trader will rarely all lose at once.
Review each Trader monthly against the drawdown you were prepared to accept, and pause or cancel those that break it.
Finally, remember that copying doesn't replace understanding. Read a Trader's description and watch how they trade for a few weeks before scaling up your allocation.
The high watermark is the best feature of RoboForex's performance fee: you never pay twice for the same profit. Pair it with proportional copying and a sensible coefficient, and risk scales with your own equity.
Priya opened a RoboForex MT4 Pro account with $500 and subscribed to two Traders in proportional mode with a coefficient of 0.5. When one Trader's drawdown passed 25%, she paused the subscription, managed the open trades herself, and later cancelled.
