IUX's two hedging articles.

IUX's two hedging articles.

Ask whether IUX allows hedging and its Help Center gives two different answers. One article, on hedging policies for all account types, says IUX "provides full support for hedging strategies" on Standard, Raw and Pro, both inside one account and across several. Another, on which trading strategies can be used, lists two hedging patterns as policy violations that can lead to account suspension and cancelled profits.

Both are published by IUX, so it's worth reading them side by side before you open opposite positions.

What the hedging article says

IUX's hedging policy article says you can open buy and sell positions on the same instrument in one account, with equal or different lot sizes, to lock in a profit or loss or manage margin. It also allows cross-account hedging, using two or more accounts to hold opposite positions. Benefits listed include reduced used margin, steadier equity during high-impact news and the freedom to run short- and long-term strategies on the same asset.

What the strategy article says

IUX's trading strategy article takes a stricter line. It describes two behaviours as violations of IUX's platform usage policies:

PatternExample IUX gives
Hedging within the same portfolioIn one MT5 account, opening a buy and a sell with the same lot size
Cross-portfolio hedgingAccount 1234 buys and account 4321 sells, with the same or similar lot size and price

If IUX detects either, the article says it can suspend the account immediately, cancel all trading profits and act without prior notice. Other strategies are allowed as long as they don't break IUX's terms.

The two articles conflict on equal-lot hedging. Until IUX confirms otherwise in writing for your account, treat equal-lot hedges, especially across two accounts at the same price, as a risk to your profits.

How to read the conflict

The common ground is fairly clear. Hedging with different lot sizes as part of a genuine strategy is supported by the first article and isn't named in the second. The risky case is an exact or near-exact mirror: equal lots in one account, or opposite trades of the same size and price across two accounts. That pattern is often used to exploit bonuses, rebates or swap differences, which is probably why IUX's strategy rules single it out.

If hedging is central to your trading, open a ticket and ask IUX which article applies, quoting both. Keep the written answer.

Arbitrage is banned

IUX's strategy article says arbitrage isn't permitted on any product and calls its use a serious breach of the terms and conditions. That includes trying to profit from price delays between IUX and other feeds.

Expert Advisors and automated trading

IUX supports Expert Advisors on all three account types, and its Help Center recommends the Raw account for EA users. EAs run only on the MT5 desktop platform; IUX says automated trading isn't available on mobile. To keep an EA running around the clock, you need a computer or a virtual private server that stays on. See IUX platforms.

Other trading rules

InstrumentIUX lot limits
Currency CFDs20 lots per order and per symbol
XAUUSD (gold)10 lots per order, 20 per symbol
Crypto CFDsMinimum 0.1; 20 per order, 100 per symbol
BTCUSDMinimum 0.01; 10 per order, 20 per symbol
Other instruments10 lots per order and per symbol

IUX says it can adjust these limits without notice based on market conditions, though changes don't affect trades already open.

  • News trading: allowed, but IUX's HMR policy cuts leverage from 15 minutes before high-impact news to 5 minutes after.
  • Scalping: IUX recommends the Raw account for scalpers and news traders.
  • Slippage: IUX says it is most common in high volatility and low liquidity, and suggests limit orders to control it.
  • Platform delays: IUX's Help Center warns that very high volume during major news can slow servers and execution.

Hedging and margin at IUX

A hedge doesn't make a position risk-free. Spreads, Raw commission and swaps still apply to both legs, and if IUX switches your account to non-free swap status, you pay swap on both. Hedged positions also remain exposed to margin changes under the HMR policy. Read IUX stop out before relying on a hedge to protect a thin account.

Slippage and news delays

IUX's Help Center is frank about what happens during big news. Order volume spikes, servers queue requests, prices gap and liquidity providers pull back or widen spreads. The results can include slippage, partial fills and short delays in execution or chart updates.

To limit the damage, IUX suggests using limit orders rather than market orders, staying out of the market during major releases if you want to avoid extreme volatility, and setting a maximum deviation where the platform allows it. For hedgers this matters twice, since both legs of a position are exposed to the same conditions.

Whatever the rules say, keep a record. Export your trade history regularly from MT5's History tab, so that if IUX ever questions a pattern in your account, you can show the reasoning behind each position and how long it was held.

Two IUX articles disagree on equal-lot hedging, and the stricter one comes with profit cancellation. When a broker's own rules conflict, the cautious reading is the one that protects your money: avoid mirrored hedges until IUX confirms in writing.

Illustrative case: Andrés, 34, Medellín

Andrés planned to run equal-size buy and sell trades on EURUSD across two IUX accounts to collect LotBack points on both. After reading IUX's strategy article he dropped the plan, since the pattern matched its definition of a violation exactly, and kept to one-directional trades instead.
