Exness Crypto Trading: Bitcoin CFDs, 24/7 Hours, Leverage and Limits
Exness offers cryptocurrency CFDs, most of them tradable 24/7, with Bitcoin at fixed 1:400 leverage and a contract of 1 BTC per lot. They're CFDs, not coins, and they aren't available to clients of its Kenyan or Jordanian companies. Here is how Exness crypto trading works.
Exness offers cryptocurrency trading as CFDs, so you trade Bitcoin and other coins' prices without holding any coins or a wallet. Its Help Center says most cryptocurrencies trade 24/7, though a few are subject to occasional server maintenance. Bitcoin against the dollar (BTCUSD) has a contract of 1 BTC per lot and fixed leverage of 1:400. Crypto trading isn't available to clients registered with Exness's Kenyan or Jordanian companies.
Because the market never closes, crypto behaves differently from forex at Exness: there's no weekend HMR, but there's still a triple swap and a few close-only pairs.
| Product | Crypto CFDs (no coins, no wallet) |
|---|---|
| Hours | 24/7 for most coins; occasional maintenance |
| BTCUSD contract | 1 BTC per lot (BTCUSDc: 0.01 BTC, MT5 Cent) |
| Leverage | Fixed 1:400 (1:200 during HMR) |
| Triple swap | Friday |
| Not available to | Clients of Exness's Kenyan and Jordanian entities |
CFDs, not coins
A crypto CFD follows the coin's price. You can buy or sell, use leverage, and close for a profit or loss, but you can't withdraw Bitcoin from Exness or send it to a wallet. That also means no exchange account, no private keys and no blockchain transfer fees. The trade-off is leverage risk and overnight swaps, which don't exist when you simply hold coins.
Contract size and margin
BTCUSD at Exness has a contract of 1 BTC per lot. At a Bitcoin price of $60,000, a 0.01 lot position is worth $600 and needs $1.50 margin at 1:400; a full lot is worth $60,000. ETHUSD has a minimum trade of 0.1 lot. On MT5 Standard Cent accounts, BTCUSDc has a contract of 0.01 BTC.
| BTCUSD position (at $60,000) | Exposure | Margin at 1:400 | Margin at 1:200 (HMR) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.01 lot | $600 | $1.50 | $3 |
| 0.10 lot | $6,000 | $15 | $30 |
| 1 lot | $60,000 | $150 | $300 |
Low margin doesn't make Bitcoin less volatile. A 5% move on a 1-lot BTCUSD position is $3,000; size by your stop, not by the margin.
Leverage and HMR
Crypto leverage at Exness is fixed, not set by your account. During HMR around high-impact news, it drops to 1:200. Because crypto trades over the weekend, Exness's weekend HMR doesn't apply to it. Our Exness stop out guide explains how margin changes affect open positions.
Costs
| Cost | BTCUSD | ETHUSD |
|---|---|---|
| Commission, Raw Spread | $2 per lot per side | $0.25 per lot per side |
| Commission, Zero | $4.375 per lot per side | $0.50 per lot per side |
| Spread | All accounts | All accounts |
| Swap | Triple on Friday | Triple on Friday |
Exness reserves the right to apply an overnight admin fee on some accounts; its examples are $50 per lot on BTCUSD and $5 on ETHUSD. Our Exness fees guide explains it.
Close-only crypto pairs
Exness lists BTCAUD, BTCCNH, BTCTHB, BTCXAG and BTCXAU as close-only: you can close existing positions but not open new ones. Instruments are sometimes put in close-only mode before they're delisted, Exness notes. If you see an 'Only Close' error, the instrument is in that mode.
Swap-free crypto
Exness's swap-free list includes all cryptocurrencies, and clients from Islamic countries receive swap-free status automatically. The status can be lost if you hold large positions overnight. Our Exness Islamic account guide explains the rules.
Platforms and accounts
Crypto is available on Standard, Pro, Raw Spread and Zero accounts, and on Standard Cent through BTCUSDc and ETHUSDc on MT5 only. On the Pro account, crypto uses market execution rather than instant execution. Our Exness execution guide explains the difference.
Is Exness good for crypto trading?
For short-term traders who want leveraged exposure to Bitcoin around the clock, with no wallet to manage, Exness's crypto CFDs are convenient. Long-term holders are a different case: swaps and leverage make CFDs a poor substitute for owning coins. And clients of the Kenyan or Jordanian companies can't trade crypto at all.
Crypto vs forex at Exness
| Crypto CFDs | Forex majors | |
|---|---|---|
| Trading hours | 24/7 for most coins | Weekdays only |
| Leverage | Fixed 1:400 on BTCUSD | Up to 1:Unlimited for eligible accounts |
| Weekend HMR | Does not apply | Applies around the weekend break |
| Triple swap day | Friday | Wednesday |
| Kenyan and Jordanian clients | Not available | Available |
The fixed leverage is the biggest practical difference. On forex majors, Exness lets eligible accounts choose very high leverage, but on Bitcoin the ratio is set by the instrument and your account setting has no effect. A trader moving from EUR/USD to BTCUSD should expect a different margin figure for the same lot size.
Managing risk on a market that never closes
- Place a stop loss when you open the trade, not later, because price can move while you are away from the screen.
- Set price alerts in the Exness Trade app so you hear about large moves at night or at the weekend.
- Size each trade from the distance to your stop, so a single loss stays within a fixed share of your balance.
- Expect wider spreads and sharper moves at quiet times; weekend crypto trading can be thinner than weekday trading.
- Check your free margin before HMR periods around major news, when leverage halves to 1:200.
Placing a crypto trade at Exness
- Open or use a Standard, Pro, Raw Spread or Zero account (or an MT5 Standard Cent account for BTCUSDc and ETHUSDc).
- Find BTCUSD, ETHUSD or another coin in Market Watch or the instrument search.
- Choose the volume, keeping in mind that 1 lot of BTCUSD is 1 BTC.
- Add a stop loss and, if you use one, a take profit.
- Confirm the order and watch your margin level in the account summary.
Crypto at Exness never sleeps, so neither does your risk. Use stops on every position, because a weekend move won't wait for Monday's open.
Daniel opened 0.05 lot of BTCUSD at Exness on a Friday evening with a stop $1,500 away, risking $75. A sharp drop on Saturday hit his stop while traditional markets were closed. Because he had sized the trade from the stop, the loss stayed within his plan.
