FXTM Crypto Trading: CFDs, Weekend Hours, Leverage and Commission
FXTM offers crypto CFDs on Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Cardano, Litecoin, XRP and more, tradable seven days a week with short breaks. Leverage reaches 1:1000 on the first $5,000 of BTC or ETH and falls in tiers, and Advantage charges 0.03% commission. Here are the details.
FXTM lets you trade cryptocurrencies as CFDs, contracts that follow the price without you owning the coins. You can go long or short, and you don't need a crypto wallet, recovery seed or exchange account. FXTM's crypto page names Bitcoin, Ethereum, Cardano and Solana; its Help Centre adds Litecoin and XRP among the supported coins.
Crypto is the one FXTM market that trades at weekends, and it has its own leverage tiers and break times. Kenyan residents can't trade it at all, because of regional restrictions.
| Product | Crypto CFDs, long or short |
|---|---|
| Coins | BTC, ETH, SOL, ADA, LTC, XRP and others |
| Hours | 7 days a week, with short breaks |
| Max leverage | 1:1000 on the first $5,000 of BTC or ETH |
| Advantage commission | 0.03% of notional |
| Kenya | Not available |
Trading hours and breaks
FXTM's crypto CFDs trade every day, including weekends, but pause briefly. All times are server time, which is GMT+2, or GMT+3 during daylight saving.
| Platform | Daily break | Saturday break | Sunday breaks |
|---|---|---|---|
| MT4 | 00:00 to 00:05 | 10:00 to 16:00 | 03:00 to 04:00 and 22:00 to 22:10 |
| MT5 | 00:00 to 00:05 | 10:00 to 14:00 | 22:00 to 22:10 |
During a break you can't open new positions or change existing ones. Plan stop losses before the Saturday recess.
Leverage on crypto
| Exposure | BTC and ETH | Other coins |
|---|---|---|
| Up to $5,000 | 1:1000 | 1:100 |
| $5,001 to $10,000 | 1:500 | 1:50 |
| $10,001 to $50,000 | 1:100 | 1:10 |
| $50,001 to $200,000 | 1:10 | 1:3 |
| Above $200,000 | 1:1 | No leverage (1:1) |
Leverage is floating, so the more crypto exposure you hold, the lower the ratio on each extra slice. FXTM's margin example for a crypto CFD: 0.1 lot at a price of 998.50 with a 50% margin rate needs 0.1 x 1 x 998.50 x 50% = $49.93. Our FXTM leverage guide explains floating tiers and the temporary DMR limits.
Costs: commission, spread and swaps
On Advantage, crypto carries a commission of 0.03% of notional value, charged when opening and again when closing. FXTM's example: a 0.01 Bitcoin trade at $66,000 costs 0.01 x 1 x 0.03% x 66,000 x 2 = $0.40. On spread-only accounts the cost is in the spread. Note that FXTM's crypto Help Centre article says 0.03% applies 'on all account types', which doesn't match the zero-commission description of its Rewards accounts; check the commission shown in your platform.
Swaps on crypto are calculated as a yearly percentage: position value x annual rate / 100 / 360. FXTM's example for a 0.1-lot short Bitcoin position at $57,000 with a -19% rate gives -$3.01 a night.
Which accounts and platforms
Cryptocurrencies appear on Rewards Plus, Rewards and Advantage in FXTM's accounts table, with Bitcoin and Ethereum on Micro. Its crypto Help Centre article names only Advantage accounts, using older account names. On swap-free accounts, crypto CFDs may be disabled, according to FXTM's 'Trade is disabled' article. You can trade crypto on MT4, MT5 and the FXTM app.
If you see 'Trade is disabled' on a crypto symbol, check whether swap-free is switched on in your profile. FXTM says crypto CFDs aren't available on swap-free accounts.
Placing a crypto trade
- Fund your account and open MT4, MT5 or the FXTM app.
- Find the coin; in MetaTrader, right-click Market Watch and choose Show All if it is hidden.
- Check the spread, contract size and trading hours in the symbol specification.
- Choose long or short and the size, and set a stop loss.
- Watch margin level, especially over the weekend.
Crypto as a payment method
Separately from trading, FXTM accepts more than 50 cryptocurrencies for deposits and pays withdrawals in crypto, free and usually within 30 minutes. A closed-loop rule sends your crypto deposit back to the same address first, and the first withdrawal to a new wallet needs a confirmation call. See FXTM withdrawal.
Crypto CFDs: the trade-offs
FXTM's case for crypto CFDs is convenience: no wallets, recovery seeds, cold storage or exchange hacks to worry about, and the chance to profit when prices fall as well as rise. The other side is just as real. You never own the coins, so you can't move them to a wallet or spend them, and positions are leveraged and charged swaps overnight.
FXTM itself warns that crypto markets are extremely volatile and that trading on margin can lose money quickly if the market moves against you. Its suggested safeguard is a stop loss, which closes the position automatically when triggered. Keep crypto positions smaller than your forex positions to allow for bigger daily moves.
Practising crypto first
FXTM's demo account includes cryptocurrencies, so you can see how crypto spreads, weekend breaks and margin behave before risking money. The Micro account then offers Bitcoin and Ethereum CFDs at cent-account size on MT4, a cheap way to experience real crypto volatility. Moving up to Rewards Plus, Rewards or Advantage opens the wider coin list and MT5.
Whichever account you use, check the symbol's contract size and break times before your first trade, and set stop losses before weekend breaks, when you can't change positions.
Remember that crypto margin is set by tiers across your whole crypto exposure, so adding a second coin can move part of your position into a lower-leverage tier and raise the margin on everything you hold.
FXTM's 1:1000 on Bitcoin only covers your first $5,000 of exposure, and altcoins start at 1:100. That tiering is sensible; crypto moves too fast for very high leverage on large positions.
Samuel traded Bitcoin CFDs on his FXTM Advantage account at weekends. He kept his exposure under $5,000, set a stop loss before the Saturday break on MT5, and budgeted for the 0.03% commission, about 40 cents on each 0.01-lot round trip.
