AvaTrade's copy trading options.

AvaTrade's copy trading options.

AvaTrade doesn't rely on a single copy trading product. Its copy trading page lists three: AvaSocial, a social trading app where you follow and copy traders; DupliTrade, which mirrors vetted strategy providers into your MT4 or MT5 account; and MetaTrader signals, a large database of signal providers. The Help Center also covers ZuluTrade connections. All of them let you trade without placing every order yourself, but none removes the risk.

The right choice depends on how much control you want and how much you plan to invest.

AvaSocial

AvaSocial is an app for Android and iOS that AvaTrade developed with Pelican Trading. You log in with your AvaTrade email and password, browse traders by performance, risk and asset class, and either follow or copy them. Following sends you a notification when the trader opens a position, so you can copy it or inverse it (take the opposite side) manually. Copying mirrors every action automatically.

  • You can follow as many traders as you like.
  • How many positions you can copy depends on the funds in your account.
  • Only one AvaTrade account can be connected to AvaSocial per registration.
  • The first time you copy, you submit extra details and accept the app's terms.

DupliTrade

DupliTrade is operated by DT Direct Investment Hub Ltd, an AvaTrade group company regulated by CySEC (licence 347/17). It mirrors trades from strategy providers that AvaTrade says are audited and vetted, directly into your AvaTrade MetaTrader account, with no plugins to install. Access starts at $2,000 on MT4 or $500 on MT5.

  1. Register with DupliTrade or select it when applying for an AvaTrade account.
  2. Fund your AvaTrade MT4 or MT5 account; deposits and withdrawals go through AvaTrade's Finance area.
  3. Sign and send the Limited Power of Attorney form for your region to DupliTrade support.
  4. Choose strategy providers; trades appear in your MetaTrader terminal and app.

DupliTrade earns through spreads, with no extra set-up cost, and offers a free 30-day demo. You can still close or modify copied trades in MT4, though AvaTrade warns that doing so changes your results.

MetaTrader signals and ZuluTrade

MT4 and MT5 include a signals service where you subscribe to providers from MetaQuotes' MQL5 community. ZuluTrade is another copy platform that connects to MT4; AvaTrade requires a signed Limited Power of Attorney uploaded to your account area to link it.

Disconnecting

To stop DupliTrade or ZuluTrade, close the open positions first, either manually or through the platform, then contact AvaTrade with your account number asking to be disconnected. MQL5 signals are unsubscribed inside MetaTrader.

Choosing traders to copy

  • Look at maximum drawdown, not only returns.
  • Prefer long track records over a strong recent month.
  • Spread money across several providers with different styles.
  • Check what instruments they trade and that you are comfortable with them.
  • Review providers regularly and drop those whose behaviour changes.

AvaTrade's Help Center is plain about it: nothing guarantees success, and by copying other people's trades you take on their risk too.

Costs

Copied trades pay AvaTrade's normal spreads and overnight premiums. Inactivity fees still apply if an account goes unused. Our AvaTrade fees guide lists every charge.

Getting started with AvaSocial

  1. Download AvaSocial from Google Play or the App Store and keep it updated.
  2. Register in the app, or log in with your AvaTrade email and password.
  3. Browse experts and filter by performance, risk level and asset class.
  4. Decide how much capital to assign to each trader you copy.
  5. Monitor results on the dashboard and stop copying at any time.

Follow, copy or inverse

FollowYou get a notification when the trader opens a position and decide yourself
CopyEvery action the trader takes is mirrored in your account automatically
InverseYou open the same instrument in the opposite direction, manually

Risk controls

AvaTrade's copy trading page lists the controls you keep: custom stop-loss limits, allocation rules and drawdown controls, plus the ability to pause, modify or stop copying any trader at any time. Use them from the start rather than after a bad week.

  • Set a maximum amount for each trader you copy.
  • Add a stop or drawdown limit per strategy.
  • Keep some free margin unallocated so copied trades don't push you towards a stop out.

Every copied trade still pays AvaTrade's spread and overnight premium, so frequent copied trades add up. Check a provider's trade frequency before you copy.

Copying vs trading yourself

Main riskA provider's bad runYour own mistakes

Many traders mix the two: a share of the account copies one or two providers, while the rest is traded by hand. That keeps you learning while the copied part runs in the background.

With DupliTrade the $500 MT5 entry point makes it accessible, but copy at least two providers and set a maximum loss for each. One strategy's bad month shouldn't decide your whole account.

Illustrative case: Samuel, 45, Nairobi

Samuel opened an AvaTrade MT5 account with $1,000 and connected it to DupliTrade after a 30-day demo. He split his capital between two strategy providers with different styles, checked their drawdowns monthly, and replaced one after three losing months.
