AvaTrade Crypto Trading: Bitcoin CFDs, 24/7 Hours, Leverage and Limits
AvaTrade offers cryptocurrency CFDs, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple and Litecoin, tradable 24/7 on MetaTrader accounts. You don't own the coins, leverage depends on your region, and crypto isn't available on Islamic accounts. Here is how AvaTrade crypto trading works.
AvaTrade lets you trade cryptocurrencies as CFDs or as currency pairs such as BTCEUR. Its Help Center is clear that either way, you don't own the coins; you trade on their price. That removes the need for a wallet or exchange account, and lets you go short as easily as long. AvaTrade says crypto trades 24 hours a day, seven days a week, while traditional markets run Monday to Friday.
Crypto at AvaTrade has its own conditions: leverage that varies by region, position limits per client, and some exclusions.
| Product | CFDs and crypto pairs (no ownership) |
|---|---|
| Hours | 24/7 on MetaTrader accounts |
| Leverage (international) | 100:1 Bitcoin pairs, 50:1 others |
| EU, ADGM, ASIC retail | 2:1 |
| Islamic accounts | Crypto not available |
| Bitcoin position limit | $1.5 million per client |
Which coins you can trade
AvaTrade's crypto table on 1 October 2026 listed BTCUSD, BTCEUR, BTCJPY, Ethereum (ETHUSD), Ripple (XRP), Litecoin (LTCUSD), Solana (SOLUSD, on MT5) and Dogecoin (DOGEUSD). Its trading conditions also mention Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Gold, Dash and Stellar, and it offers the Crypto 10 index, which tracks the ten largest cryptocurrencies by market value.
Leverage and spreads
| Instrument | Leverage (international) | Margin | Spread (over market) |

| BTCEUR | 100:1 | 1% | 0.12% |

| XRP | 50:1 | 2% | 0.18% |
| LTCUSD | 50:1 | 2% | 0.30% |
| DOGEUSD | 50:1 | 2% | 0.40% |
Figures from AvaTrade's crypto table on 1 October 2026, international view. EU, ADGM and ASIC retail clients are limited to 2:1, and Professional clients can use 25:1 on certain crypto. Our AvaTrade leverage guide covers the rules. AvaTrade notes that crypto spreads can be volatile and margin can rise during volatile periods.
Position limits
| Coin | Maximum position per client |
|---|---|
| Bitcoin pairs | $1.5 million |
| Ethereum | $750,000 |
| Ripple | $400,000 |
| Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin | $200,000 |
| Crypto 10 index | $100,000 |
| All crypto combined | $2.5 million |
AvaTrade says these limits may be reduced during volatile periods.
Overnight costs
Crypto positions held past 22:00 GMT pay an overnight premium. For non-FX instruments on MT4 and MT5, AvaTrade takes the weekend charge on Friday. The Crypto 10 index has a daily swap of -0.0111% for both long and short positions.
Exclusions and restrictions
- Crypto trading isn't available on Islamic accounts.
- If you trade crypto while holding a bonus, AvaTrade says the bonus is cancelled and deducted from your balance.
- Crypto may be untradable for short periods at weekends because of platform maintenance and exchange downtime.
- AvaTrade's trading conditions prohibit crypto trading for UK retail clients.
If you have an active deposit bonus, trading any crypto instrument cancels it. Check your account before opening a Bitcoin trade.
Platforms for crypto
You can trade crypto on MetaTrader 4 and 5, WebTrader and the AvaTrade app. Solana is listed on MT5. AvaProtect doesn't cover crypto; it is limited to forex, gold and silver. Our AvaTrade platforms guide compares them.
Managing crypto risk
- Size positions from your stop loss; at 100:1, a 1% Bitcoin move equals your whole margin.
- Use stops, but remember they aren't guaranteed and can slip in fast markets.
- Watch weekend liquidity, when spreads can widen and trading may pause briefly.
- Keep total crypto exposure well under the per-client limits.
Is AvaTrade good for crypto?
For traders who want leveraged, two-way exposure to major coins around the clock under a regulated broker, AvaTrade's crypto CFDs work well. Long-term holders are better served elsewhere: the overnight premium and lack of ownership make buying the coins elsewhere more sensible. Compare with Exness crypto trading.
Crypto CFDs vs buying coins
| AvaTrade crypto CFD | Buying coins on an exchange | |
|---|---|---|
| Ownership | No; you trade the price | Yes |
| Wallet needed | No | Yes |
| Go short | Yes | Not usually |
| Leverage | Yes, by region | Usually none |
| Overnight cost | Overnight premium | None for holding |
A worked example
Suppose you open a Bitcoin position worth $10,000 at 100:1. It needs $100 of margin. A 5% rise makes $500; a 5% fall loses $500, five times the margin. At 2:1, the EU retail limit, the same position needs $5,000 of margin, but the profit or loss on a 5% move is still $500.
| Bitcoin move | Result on a $10,000 position |
|---|---|
| +5% | +$500 |
| -2% | -$200 |
| -5% | -$500 |
The Crypto 10 index
AvaTrade's Crypto 10 index follows the ten largest cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation, so one trade gives you exposure to the wider market. It carries a daily swap of -0.0111% on both long and short positions and a $100,000 position limit per client.
Placing a crypto trade
- Check you don't hold an active bonus, which crypto trading cancels.
- Open MT4, MT5, WebTrader or the AvaTrade app and find the coin.
- Size the position from your stop loss.
- Add a stop loss and, if you use one, a take profit.
- Watch your margin, which can rise in volatile periods.
Weekend crypto trading
Crypto is the only market at AvaTrade that trades through the weekend, while its Client Services team works on weekdays. AvaTrade also warns that crypto pairs may be untradable for short periods at weekends because of platform maintenance and exchange downtime. Set stops before Friday evening, keep enough free margin for a sharp move, and avoid opening large positions when you can't watch them. Our AvaTrade customer support guide lists the support hours.
Crypto is the one AvaTrade market that never closes, so a trade without a stop is exposed all weekend. Size it for the move you'd accept on a Sunday night with no one watching.
Bilal opened 0.10 lot of BTCUSD at AvaTrade on a Friday with a stop $1,000 away, risking about $100. On Saturday Bitcoin dropped sharply and his stop filled slightly below his level. The loss stayed close to his plan because he had sized the trade from the stop.
