AvaTrade Fees: Spreads, Overnight Premiums, Inactivity and Admin Fees
AvaTrade earns through the spread, with no commission on its standard pricing. Other costs are the overnight premium on positions held past 22:00 GMT, a $50 inactivity fee after three months without trading and a $100 administration fee after a year. Here is every AvaTrade charge and how to keep it down.
AvaTrade's fees page sets out its charges plainly. The broker is paid through the buy/sell spread, which is built into the prices you see rather than added on top. Positions held overnight pay an overnight premium. Accounts left unused face an inactivity fee after three months and an administration fee after twelve. There's no commission on its standard spread-only pricing.
For most traders the spread is the main cost. Anyone who stops trading for a while may find the inactivity charges matter more.
| Pricing | Spread-only, built into quotes |
|---|---|
| EUR/USD typical spread | 0.8 pips (forex table, 1 Oct 2026) |
| Overnight premium | Positions open at 22:00 GMT |
| Inactivity fee | 50 after 3 months without use, then each 3 months |
| Administration fee | 100 after 12 months without use |
| Bank withdrawal fees | AvaTrade covers up to 100 |
Spreads
AvaTrade describes all spreads as over market. Its typical spreads are the median spread during 07:00 to 18:00 GMT over the previous quarter, so they're an indication, and they can widen in volatile markets, around the end-of-day rollover, and on gold, silver and oil overnight.
| Pair | Typical spread (pips) | Leverage shown |
|---|---|---|
| EUR/USD | 0.8 | 400:1 |
| AUD/USD | 0.9 | 400:1 |
| GBP/USD | 1.2 | 400:1 |
| EUR/GBP | 1.2 | 400:1 |
| USD/JPY | 1.3 | 400:1 |
| USD/CHF | 1.3 | 400:1 |
| USD/CAD | 1.8 | 400:1 |
| NZD/USD | 2.1 | 400:1 |

What the spread costs per trade
On EUR/USD, a pip is worth about $10 per standard lot. A 0.8-pip spread therefore costs about $8 per lot, round turn, because you pay it once when you open. On 0.10 lot it is about $0.80.
Overnight premium (swaps)
AvaTrade charges an overnight premium on positions still open at 22:00 GMT. Weekend premiums are charged in advance on set days:
| Instrument | Weekend charge taken on |
|---|---|
| Forex, gold and silver (MT4/MT5) | Wednesday |
| USDTRY and USDCAD | Thursday |
| Other instruments (indices, commodities, shares, crypto) | Friday |
AvaTrade's Help Center gives the daily rate on stock indices as -0.0058% for both long and short positions, and on the Crypto 10 index as -0.0111%. Rates for each instrument are on its Trading Conditions page.
Inactivity and administration fees
These are the charges most likely to surprise a casual trader. After three consecutive months of non-use, AvaTrade deducts an inactivity fee of $50 (or €50 or £50), and again after each further three-month period. Once twelve consecutive months pass without use, it also deducts an annual administration fee of $100 (or €100 or £100). Both apply unless prohibited by law.
| Months without use | Fees charged | Running total |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | $50 inactivity | $50 |
| 6 | $50 inactivity | $100 |
| 9 | $50 inactivity | $150 |
| 12 | $50 inactivity + $100 administration | $300 |
A small balance left untouched can be eaten by fees within a year. Withdraw what you don't need, or close the account, if you plan to stop trading.
Deposits, withdrawals and transfers
AvaTrade covers bank transfer fees on withdrawals up to $/€/£100, and internal transfers between your accounts are free. Intermediary bank charges are outside its control. Our AvaTrade withdrawal guide explains the process.
Optional costs
- AvaProtect: a premium, based on expected volatility, for loss protection on a trade.
- Islamic account: no overnight fee up to five days, but wider spreads on FX pairs.
- AI Agent: AvaTrade calls it a premium service and reserves the right to charge for it.
- Copy trading: DupliTrade earns through spreads, with no extra set-up cost.
Earning on idle money
VIP clients with equity over $10,000 can earn interest on free margin: 2.5% a year in USD for Diamond, 2% for Platinum, 1.5% for Gold and 1% for Silver, paid monthly, according to AvaTrade. Islamic accounts are excluded.
How to keep AvaTrade costs down
- Trade the tightest pairs, such as EUR/USD, during the London and New York sessions.
- Avoid opening trades around the 22:00 GMT rollover, when spreads widen.
- Close positions before 22:00 GMT if you don't need them overnight, especially before Wednesday's triple charge.
- Log in and trade at least once in every three-month period, or withdraw idle funds.

A month of trading: what it costs
Suppose you place 20 trades of 0.5 lot on EUR/USD in a month and close each one the same day. At a 0.8-pip typical spread, each trade costs about $4, so the month's spread cost is about $80. Holding positions overnight adds the overnight premium on top.
| Activity | Cost |
|---|---|
| 20 trades x 0.5 lot EUR/USD at 0.8 pips | About $80 in spread |
| Same trades held overnight | Plus the overnight premium for each night |
| Three months with no trading | $50 inactivity fee |
Dormant-account fees compared
| Broker | Fee on an unused account |
|---|---|
| AvaTrade | $50 every 3 months, plus $100 after 12 months |
| XM | $10 a month after 90 days of inactivity |
| Exness | No inactivity fees |

When spreads widen
- Around the end of the trading day (22:00 GMT, or 21:00 GMT during US daylight saving), when FX pairs may not be tradable and AvaTrade pauses forex for about 10 minutes.
- On gold and silver from roughly 22:00 to 02:00 GMT.
- Crude and Brent oil from roughly 22:00 to 05:00 GMT, and during weekly inventory reports.
- Around major news and in volatile markets.
AvaTrade's spreads are competitive for a spread-only broker, but the inactivity schedule is strict: $300 can go in the first year of not trading. Set a calendar reminder if you're a seasonal trader.
Sofia traded with AvaTrade during the spring, then left $400 in the account over the summer. After three months she noticed a €50 inactivity fee. She placed a small trade to reset the clock, then withdrew most of the balance until she was ready to trade again.
