AvaTrade Demo Account: $10,000 Balance, 60 Days and How to Extend It
AvaTrade's demo account gives you $10,000 (or €10,000 or £10,000) of virtual money on live prices for 60 days, extendable through support. AvaOptions demos last three months and DupliTrade offers a 30-day trial. Here is how to open, extend and get the most from an AvaTrade demo.
An AvaTrade demo account lets you trade on live market prices with virtual money. AvaTrade's Help Center says it provides a standard balance of $10,000, €10,000 or £10,000, enough margin to practise properly, and that demo accounts last 60 days. You can ask Customer Services to extend one before it expires, or simply add a new demo once it has.
The price feeds are live on both demo and real accounts, so a demo is a fair test of your platform and strategy, if not of your emotions.
| Balance | $10,000 / €10,000 / £10,000 |
|---|---|
| Duration | 60 days, extendable on request |
| Prices | Live, same feed as real accounts |
| Platforms | MT4, MT5, AvaTrade platform, AvaOptions |
| AvaOptions demo | 3 months |
| DupliTrade demo | 30 days |
How to open a demo
- Register with AvaTrade, or log in if you already have an account.
- In your account area, click Add an Account and choose Demo Account.
- Select the platform and base currency.
- Use the login details AvaTrade emails you to sign in to the platform.
In WebTrader, you can also open the menu and choose Switch to Demo. AvaTrade notes that only one demo account can be created per registration in WebTrader.
Demo vs real account
| Demo | Real | |
|---|---|---|
| Money | Virtual | Your deposit |
| Prices | Live feed | Live feed |
| Duration | 60 days (extendable) | No limit |
| Verification | Not needed | Required |
| Fills and slippage | Simulated | Real market conditions |
| Emotional pressure | Low | Real |
A demo shows you how the platform, spreads and margin work. It can't show you how you'll react to losing real money, which is why a short demo followed by small live trades works better than months of demo alone.
Extending your demo
To keep a demo beyond 60 days, contact Customer Services before it expires and say how long you want it extended. If it has already expired, add a new demo account. When a demo login fails, AvaTrade says the two usual causes are wrong login details (passwords are case-sensitive) and expiry after 60 days.
AvaOptions, DupliTrade and AvaSocial demos
- AvaOptions: demo accounts last three months; to extend, email [email protected] during the second month.
- DupliTrade: a free 30-day automated demo to try copying strategies.
- Balance: AvaTrade sets demo balances at the standard 10,000 rather than custom amounts.
A 60-day demo plan
- Days 1 to 7: learn the platform; place, modify and close market and pending orders.
- From day 8 to day 21, trade one or two instruments with fixed rules and a stop on every trade.
- Between days 22 and 45, size trades as if your balance were your planned real deposit, not $10,000.
- In the last two weeks, review your results; if your rules held, move to a small real account.
Set your demo position sizes as if the account held your real starting deposit. Trading a $10,000 demo with 1-lot positions teaches habits a $500 account can't support.
Testing AvaProtect and EAs on demo
A demo is a safe place to try AvaTrade's tools. Run Expert Advisors on an MT4 or MT5 demo before trusting them with money, and in the AvaTrade app or WebTrader, see how AvaProtect is priced on different pairs and periods. Our AvaProtect guide explains how the protection works.
Moving to a real account
When you are ready, add a real account, verify your identity and address, and deposit at least 100 in your base currency. Our AvaTrade account opening guide walks through verification.
Demos on each platform
| Platform | What to practise |
|---|---|
| MT4 / MT5 | Indicators, pending orders and Expert Advisors |
| WebTrader and AvaTrade app | AvaProtect pricing, alerts and AI insights |
| AvaOptions | Calls, puts and option strategies (3-month demo) |
| DupliTrade | Copying strategy providers (30-day demo) |
What a demo can't teach you
- How you react to a real losing streak.
- Real fills during fast markets, where stop losses can slip.
- The discipline to keep position sizes small when the money is yours.
- Resisting the pull to trade more after a big win.
Common demo mistakes
- Trading the full $10,000 balance with large lots you could never afford live.
- Changing strategy every few days instead of testing one long enough.
- Ignoring spreads and overnight premiums because the money isn't real.
- Letting the demo expire without reviewing your results.
From demo to live: a checklist
- Write down your entry, exit and risk rules.
- Review at least 30 demo trades against those rules.
- Set your live position size from your real deposit, not the demo balance.
- Verify your account and deposit an amount you can afford to lose.
- Trade the same instruments and times you practised.
Learning alongside the demo
AvaTrade's AvaAcademy offers free courses, from platform tutorials to technical analysis, and its Education Centre covers trading basics. Pair a lesson with demo practice: read about a pending order type, then place one on the demo the same day.
Practising on your phone
The AvaTrade app supports demo accounts, so you can practise placing trades, setting alerts and seeing AvaProtect prices before you deposit. MetaTrader's own mobile apps for MT4 and MT5 work with MetaTrader demos too. Practising on the device you will trade on matters, because order entry on a small screen is where many beginner mistakes happen. Our AvaTrade app guide covers the app.
Use the 60 days with a plan and a deadline. A demo that never ends tends to hide the real question, which is if you can follow your rules when the money is yours.
Imran opened an AvaTrade MT5 demo with $10,000 but traded it as if it held $500, risking $10 per trade. After 50 days his results were steady, so he opened a real MT5 account, deposited $500 and kept exactly the same position sizes.
