Tickmill Islamic Account: Swap-Free Rules, Handling Fees and Grace Days
Any Tickmill Classic or Raw account can be converted to a swap-free Islamic account. Swaps are removed, and a fixed handling fee per lot applies on selected instruments after a grace period. Here is how the fee works, the 41-day rule on Classic, and how to apply.
Tickmill's Islamic account is a swap-free version of its normal accounts. You hold positions overnight without paying or earning interest. Spreads, execution speed and platform access stay the same as on the standard account. The one change is that swap charges are removed, and a handling fee may apply on selected instruments once a grace period ends.
Any Classic or Raw account can be converted. After your first account is switched, every new account you open at Tickmill is swap-free as well, which keeps all your trading on the same footing. Eligibility applies, and Tickmill asks you to read and comply with the relevant terms and conditions before applying.
| Available on | Classic and Raw accounts |
|---|---|
| Swaps | Removed |
| Charged instead | Handling fee per lot, after a grace period |
| Fee direction | Same for long and short positions |
| Applied at | 00:00 server time, as a separate balance entry |
| Future accounts | Automatically swap-free |
How handling fees work
A handling fee is a fixed dollar amount per lot for each night a position stays open after its charge-free days run out. Tickmill publishes a table by instrument, covering forex, commodities, stocks and stock indices, with two columns: the fee in dollars per lot and the number of charge-free days.
The broker's own example uses EUR/CZK. Open a position on day one and no fee applies for the first three nights. Fees begin on the fourth night at 00:00 and continue each night until you close the trade.
| Night held | EUR/CZK example | Fee charged? |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Within charge-free days | No |
| 2 | Within charge-free days | No |
| 3 | Within charge-free days | No |
| 4 | Grace period over | Yes, at 00:00 |
| 5 and later | Each further night | Yes, nightly |
Four rules apply to every fee. Charges are quoted in US dollars and converted to your account currency. They are fixed per lot, so half a lot pays half. Long and short positions pay the same. And Tickmill can change the fees at any time at its discretion, which is why we point you to its live table instead of printing figures that may be out of date.
The handling fee table on Tickmill's Islamic account page lists the amount and the charge-free days for each instrument. Check your instruments there before holding a trade for more than a couple of nights.
The 41-day rule on Classic accounts
Classic swap-free accounts get a long grace period on a specific set of instruments. For these, Tickmill says handling fees start only from day 41.

| Group | Instruments with fees from day 41 on Classic swap-free |
|---|---|
| Metals | XAUUSD, XAUEUR, XAGUSD |
| Yen pairs | USDJPY, EURJPY, GBPJPY, AUDJPY, CADJPY, CHFJPY, NZDJPY |
| Franc pairs | USDCHF, EURCHF, GBPCHF, AUDCHF, CADCHF, NZDCHF |
Forty days without a holding charge on gold is generous. A swing trader in gold or yen pairs can hold for weeks on a Classic swap-free account and pay nothing beyond the spread. That exception is stated for Classic accounts, so Raw swap-free accounts follow the standard table for those instruments.
This changes the usual advice about account types. Raw is cheaper to enter and exit, at about $6 a lot plus a thin spread against Classic's 1.6 pips. For a Muslim trader who holds gold for three weeks, the absence of a nightly fee on Classic can outweigh that entry cost many times over.
Crypto on Islamic accounts
Digital currencies follow a rule of their own. New cryptocurrency positions have a five-day swap-free period. After that, a yearly 10% swap charge applies to long positions. Tickmill tells clients to make any adjustments needed to keep their trading in line with halal practice.
Its example shows the scale. One lot of BTCUSD held overnight at a market price of 66,200 dollars costs 18.40 dollars a night: the position value multiplied by 10%, divided by 360. On a position worth $66,200, that is about 0.028% a day.
The crypto charge is described by Tickmill as a swap. If avoiding swaps is your reason for the account, close long crypto positions within the five-day period or leave them alone.
Conditions that stay the same
| Feature | Islamic account |
|---|---|
| Base currencies | USD, EUR, GBP, ZAR |
| Execution | Hybrid model, market execution |
| Average execution speed | 0.15 seconds |
| Margin call / stop out | 100% / 50% |
| Instruments | 62 currency pairs, indices, commodities, crypto and stock CFDs |
Costs at entry are unchanged. A Classic swap-free account still has spreads from 1.6 pips with no commission, and a Raw swap-free account still pays $3 per lot per side on forex and metals. Leverage, minimum deposit and platforms follow the underlying account.
Is it Sharia-compliant?
Tickmill presents the account as a way to trade in line with Sharia principles by removing interest-based swaps. The pages we read don't name a Sharia board or publish a fatwa. Whether a fixed handling fee, leverage and CFDs are acceptable is a matter on which scholars differ.
We can describe the mechanics and no more. Interest on overnight positions is removed. A fixed fee per lot, unrelated to the direction of the trade, applies after a grace period. Crypto is treated differently. Take those facts to a scholar you trust before you rely on the account for religious reasons.
How to switch
- Open and verify a Classic or Raw account.
- Read the Islamic account terms and conditions.
- Request the switch in your Client Area or through support.
- Wait for the review; Tickmill aims to email you within one business day.
- Confirm on your next overnight hold that no swap is applied.
Once approved, any account you open afterwards is swap-free without a new request. If you haven't registered yet, our Tickmill account opening guide covers the first step.
Classic or Raw for swap-free trading?

| Your style | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Day trading, flat by the close | Raw | Lowest entry cost; fees never apply |
| Gold or yen swing trades held for weeks | Classic | No handling fee until day 41 |
| Short swings in major pairs | Either | Compare charge-free days in the table |
| Long crypto positions | Neither is ideal | 10% yearly charge after five days |
The Tickmill account types guide prices both accounts on a normal trade, and the fees guide lists the other costs.
Good habits on a swap-free account
- Look up the charge-free days for each instrument before you trade it.
- Record the day a position opened so you know when the grace period ends.
- Watch for the separate balance entry at 00:00 server time to confirm what was charged.
- Recheck the table every few months, because Tickmill may change fees.
- Keep long-term holds to the instruments with the 41-day exception, on Classic.
Set a calendar reminder for the last charge-free night of any trade. It turns the handling fee into a decision instead of a surprise.
Keep a simple log for the first month: the instrument, the day you opened, the charge-free days from Tickmill's table and any fee that appeared. Four columns are enough to show your real cost of holding, and they make any query to support easy to explain.
Tickmill's swap-free terms are among the more generous I have read, especially the 41 days on gold and yen pairs for Classic accounts. The crypto rule is the weak spot. A charge labelled as a swap sits awkwardly inside an Islamic account.
Hamza converted his Classic account through the Client Area and received confirmation the next business day. He bought 0.10 lots of gold and held it for 26 days. Because XAUUSD falls under the day-41 exception on Classic, no handling fee appeared in his balance entries, and his only cost was the spread.
