Pepperstone's active trader program rewards volume. Members get part of their trading cost back: a cash rebate per lot on forex and a spread reduction on selected index and commodity CFDs. Pepperstone says rebates are paid the day after a position closes or at the end of each month, straight into your trading account.

The catch is eligibility. The program is for Pepperstone Pro clients, and you must keep both your Pro status and the volume over a three-month period to stay in. Retail clients can't join, though they can qualify for Pepperstone's premium service at high enough volume.

The tiers

Pepperstone Active Trader Program: $1–$3 Rebates per Forex Lot. Tier 1: $1: 10%: 200–499: 400–999: 2,000–4,999; Tier 2: $2: 20%: 500–1,499: 1,000–2,999: 5,000–14,999; Tier 3: $3: 30%: 1,500+: 3,000+: 15,000+

Reaching a tier in one asset class is enough to get that tier's discounts on all three. Pepperstone's example: a trader with 500 forex lots in a month falls in Tier 2 and gets $2 per forex lot plus a 20% spread reduction on eligible index and commodity CFDs, even if their index and commodity volume is low.

Commission on the Pepperstone platform; cTrader is $6 round turn. Pepperstone calculates the rebate as a percentage of its commission or spread based on your volume, so check the exact figure on your statement.

Pepperstone gives a gold example as well: 5 lots of XAU/USD with a 0.1 spread cost $50. With a 20% rebate, $10 is credited back, so the trade costs $40.

Becoming a Pepperstone Pro

You apply for Pro status in the secure client area by completing a short quiz and self-certifying that you meet two of three tests: experience trading leveraged products, cash and investments of more than USD 500,000, or professional experience in financial services.

Pro status brings higher leverage, up to 1:1000 on forex and gold, but fewer protections. Negative balance protection becomes discretionary and capped at USD 100,000, given once, and you may agree to title-transfer terms on your margin money.

Other Pro and premium benefits

  • A dedicated account or relationship manager and priority support.
  • Free VPS hosting for automated strategies.
  • Margin relief on hedged positions through netted margin.
  • Invitations to sporting, cultural and networking events and seminars.
  • Advanced market insights and reports.

Pepperstone's premium service is separate. It needs USD 15 million a month of notional volume in forex, commodities or indices for two consecutive quarters, and both retail and Pro clients can qualify.

Is it worth it?

At 200 forex lots a month you would trade about ten standard lots each trading day. For a full-time scalper or a fund-sized account, a $1 to $3 rebate per lot is real money: Tier 2 at 500 lots saves $1,000 a month. For anyone else, the volume needed is far above safe retail trading, and the program shouldn't be a reason to trade more.

Most traders get more value from choosing the right account and platform. Our Razor account guide shows how cTrader's $6 round turn already lowers costs.

How to join

  1. Become a Pepperstone Pro in the secure client area.
  2. Trade at least one tier's volume in a calendar month.
  3. Email [email protected] or speak to your account manager.
  4. Keep your Pro status and volume over each three-month period.
For genuine high-volume traders this is one of the clearer rebate schemes: fixed dollars per lot, paid fast. Just don't give up retail protections for it unless you truly trade at that level.
