FP Markets Spreads: Standard vs Raw Averages on Forex, Gold and Indices
FP Markets publishes average spreads for both its accounts. In September 2026, EUR/USD averaged 1.2 pips on Standard and 0.1 pips on Raw, with gold at 0.25 and 0.11. Here are the numbers, what they cost per trade and when spreads widen.
FP Markets publishes typical spreads for every instrument on its spreads page, side by side for its Standard and Raw ECN accounts. Its September 2026 table showed EUR/USD averaging 1.2 pips on Standard and 0.1 pips on Raw, where the minimum was 0.0. FP Markets says spreads on MetaTrader are variable, quoted from major international financial institutions, and can go as low as 0.0 pips in liquid times.
Averages tell you more than the 'from' figure, so they are the right numbers to compare.

FP Markets also lists index spreads, such as 0.25 on the US500. Metals and index spreads are quoted in price units rather than pips, so compare them like for like.
Exotic pairs
Exotic pairs have much wider spreads because they trade less. FP Markets' table shows, for example, USD/ZAR averaging 41.9 on Standard and 31 on Raw, and USD/THB far wider again. Trade exotics only when the expected move justifies the cost.
Turning spreads into cost
A pip on one standard lot of EUR/USD is worth about US$10. On Standard, a 1.2-pip average costs about $12 per lot. Raw's 0.1-pip average costs about $1, plus the US$6 round-turn commission, about $7 in total.
| Trade size | Standard cost | Raw cost |
|---|---|---|
| 0.10 lot | About $1.20 | About $0.70 |
| 1 lot | About $12 | About $7 |
| 5 lots | About $60 | About $35 |

When spreads widen
- In low liquidity, such as the daily rollover around 00:00 server time and the weekly open.
- During high volatility and major news releases.
- On minor and exotic pairs at all times.
- Around holidays, when fewer participants are trading.
FP Markets notes that spreads move with market conditions, so its averages are a guide, not a guarantee.
Where to see live spreads
In MetaTrader, the Market Watch window shows the live bid and ask, and you can add a spread column. Charts show the bid price; to see the ask, right-click the chart, choose Properties, then Common, and tick Show Ask Line. On a Raw account on the FPMarkets-live server, Raw symbols carry a .r suffix.
Choosing an account by spread
For anyone trading majors or gold regularly, the Raw account's average spread plus commission comes out cheaper than Standard. Standard's single built-in cost suits traders who prefer simplicity or trade very small sizes. Our FP Markets account types guide compares both.
How FP Markets prices
FP Markets describes its pricing as Raw: quotes stream from its liquidity providers with no interference from it, and there are no requotes. Its servers in Equinix NY4 and LD4 aim to keep execution fast. Compare with a similar raw-spread broker in IC Markets vs FP Markets.

Spreads and trading style
- Scalpers: Raw, since tiny spreads matter on short targets; FP Markets allows scalping.
- Day traders: Raw on majors and gold during London and New York hours.
- Swing traders: spread matters less than swaps; check both.
- Occasional traders: Standard's single cost is easier to track.

|---|---|
| US500 | 0.25 |
| USDX (dollar index) | 0.04 |
| VIX | 0.21 |
Index CFDs carry no commission on either account, so the spread is the full trading cost.

|---|---|---|
| 5 lots | About $720 | About $420 |
| 20 lots | About $2,880 | About $1,680 |

Reading FP Markets' spread table
FP Markets' table shows three numbers for each instrument: the Standard account average, the Raw account minimum and the Raw account average. FP Markets says typical spreads are shown, and that they vary with market conditions. The minimum is what you might see in the quietest, most liquid moments; the average is what you should plan around.
When comparing brokers, compare like with like: Raw average plus commission against another broker's raw spread plus commission, or Standard average against another broker's commission-free account. Comparing one broker's minimum with another's average is the most common mistake traders make.
Spreads are only part of the cost on longer trades. A position held for a week can pay more in swaps than in spread, so for swing trading, check each pair's swap rate under Specifications as well as its average spread.
FP Markets' spread table is worth reading properly: the averages, not the 0.0 minimum, are what you'll pay most of the time. On EUR/USD, a 0.1-pip Raw average is genuinely tight.
Siddharth compared FP Markets' averages before opening an account. Trading about 10 lots of gold a month, he worked out Raw would cost noticeably less than Standard, chose Raw, and checked the live spread in Market Watch before each entry around the London open.
