How to Open an FP Markets Account: Registration and Verification
Opening an FP Markets account takes a short online form, then identity checks that are often automatic through Electronic Verification. If documents are needed, FP Markets reviews them within one business day and aims for an hour. Here are the steps, documents and common problems.
Opening an account with FP Markets starts with a registration form in its Client Portal. FP Markets then checks your identity, often automatically: its Electronic Verification system matches your name, address and date of birth against public and private data sources. If it can't confirm you that way, it asks for documents. FP Markets says it allows up to one business day to verify them but aims to open accounts within the hour.
Once your first account is approved, any further accounts you open don't need documents again.
| Registration | Online, through the Client Portal |
|---|---|
| Electronic Verification | Name, address and date of birth checked automatically |
| Proof of identity | Colour passport, or ID card or driving licence |
| Proof of address | Dated within 6 months |
| Review time | Up to 1 business day (aim: within the hour) |
| Two-factor login | Available in Profile Details |
Step by step
- Register in the FP Markets Client Portal with your email and a password.
- Complete your personal details and the questions on your trading knowledge and experience.
- Choose your platform (MT4, MT5 or cTrader), account type and currency.
- Pass Electronic Verification, or upload documents if asked.
- Find your login details in the email titled 'Your MT4/5 Live Account Is Ready'.
The questions on knowledge and experience are a suitability test, which FP Markets uses to judge whether its products are appropriate for you.
Electronic Verification
FP Markets' Electronic Verification checks your name, residential address and date of birth against sources such as passport and licence records, birth registers, electoral rolls, property records, telephone and utility records and credit reports. When it finds matches across several sources, your identity is confirmed without documents. If it can't, FP Markets requests documents to verify you manually.
Documents FP Markets accepts
| Type | What to upload |
|---|---|
| Proof of identity | Colour copy of your passport showing photo, full name, expiry date and signature; or a national ID card or driving licence |
| Proof of address | Utility bill (electricity, gas, water, waste, internet) or bank statement within 6 months, showing your name and address |
| One document for both | A government ID that shows your address, such as some driving licences |
FP Markets may still ask for separate identity and address documents in some cases.
PO Box addresses
For some countries, FP Markets can accept a PO Box address alongside one of these: a confirmation of residential address from your municipality, a second ID document, an employment or rental agreement showing your residential address, or a police record or local tax form.
Joint, corporate and trust accounts
- Joint: identity and address documents for both applicants.
- Corporate: certificate of incorporation, memorandum and articles, and ID and address for every owner of 25% or more.
- Trusts: the original trust deed plus documents for the trustee, and for corporate trusts the company documents and LEI number.
FP Markets' onboarding team handles these by email.
Passwords and security
- Passwords need at least 7 characters, with an upper-case letter, a lower-case letter, a number and one of the symbols #$@!%&*.
- Turn on two-factor authentication under Profile, then Profile Details.
- Reset a forgotten password with the Forgot Password link on the login page.
- If you suspect your account has been hacked, change all your FP Markets passwords immediately.
Updating your details
To change your name or address, email FP Markets' onboarding team with supporting documents, such as a marriage certificate for a new name or a recent proof of address. Requests to change your email address go to the same team.
After you're approved
- Fund your account through Funding, then Deposit.
- Download your platform from the Client Portal.
- Log in with your account number, password and server.
- Ask the onboarding team to convert to Islamic if you need swap-free.
