XM vs IUX: The Established Broker or the Cheap Newcomer? XM vs IUX: The Established Broker or the Cheap Newcomer?
XM vs IUX

IUX pulls you in with tiny spreads and huge leverage. XM offers less flashy numbers but far stronger regulation and real teaching for beginners. This guide is honest about which one actually suits someone opening their first account, and it isn't always the cheaper one.

The number a broker markets hardest is often the one a beginner should be most careful with. At IUX that number is leverage, up to 1:3000. XM doesn’t try to match it, and that gap isn’t XM falling behind. It’s two brokers chasing very different traders. On cost alone IUX often wins, but the cheaper broker isn’t automatically the right one, and for a first account that matters more than the spread does.

Leverage: A Warning for Beginners

IUX advertises leverage up to 1:3000. That number sounds exciting and it’s a real selling point in its marketing. For a new trader it’s closer to a hazard than a perk.

Leverage multiplies your losses exactly as fast as your gains. At 1:3000, a tiny move against you can wipe out your deposit in seconds. Experienced traders use high leverage deliberately and with tight risk controls. A beginner reaching for it usually just blows up an account faster. XM caps out at 1:1000, still high, but the gap tells you something about who each broker is chasing. If the 1:3000 figure is the thing pulling you toward IUX, that’s the strongest reason to slow down.

A few figures here need checking on IUX’s own site before you trust them. Its minimum deposit is reported as $3, $10, $30, and $50 across different review sites, so the real number depends on the account and your region. Its Raw commission is quoted as everything from $3 per lot to $7 per side. And you’ll see IUX described as ASIC-regulated in some places, which is disputed, so confirm exactly which entity covers your country. Spreads move through the day too, so treat these as normal-hours figures.

Trading Costs

No spin here: IUX is the cheaper broker to trade with. Its Standard account starts near 0.2 pips against XM’s 1.6, which is a wide gap on paper. Its Raw account matches XM’s 0.0 pips and, depending on which commission figure turns out to be current, may cost less per trade. IUX also runs fast execution, around 30 milliseconds by its own reporting, and a spread-stability feature meant to keep pricing steady during news. For an active trader chasing low costs, that’s a real pull.

If your only question were “which is cheaper to place trades on”, IUX would be the answer. But a first broker is about more than the spread.

What XM Does Better

Regulation. XM runs regulated entities under CySEC, ASIC, and the FSCA, and in some regions its clients fall under compensation schemes. IUX leans on the FSCA in South Africa plus offshore registration, with no top-tier license like the FCA. For money you’re trusting a company to hold, that difference matters, and it matters most when you’re new and least able to judge a broker’s reliability yourself.

Teaching. XM puts real weight behind education, with webinars, tutorials, and market analysis, plus a no-deposit bonus in some regions so you can trade live before risking your own cash. Review after review describes IUX’s education as thin. A beginner learns far more at XM.

Track record. XM has operated since 2009 with millions of clients and a settled reputation. IUX has been going since 2016. It holds a decent Trustpilot score, but there’s a recurring thread of complaints about withdrawal delays worth reading before you commit. Newer plus offshore plus withdrawal grumbles is a combination to weigh seriously when it’s your money.

More ways to trade. XM gives you MT4 and MT5; IUX is MT5 only. XM lists far more instruments, and it offers light copy trading, which IUX doesn’t have at all. One point back to IUX: its web platform is built around TradingView charts, which many traders love, and XM has no equivalent.

Which One Should You Choose?

If you’re an experienced, cost-focused trader who knows how to handle leverage and wants the tightest spreads with TradingView charting, IUX makes a real case. It’s cheap and fast, and that’s genuinely its strength.

If you’re opening your first account, XM is the safer pick, and it isn’t close. Stronger regulation, actual teaching, a longer track record, and leverage that won’t tempt you into blowing up on day one. The 0.2-pip spread at IUX looks great until you realise what a beginner actually needs is protection and guidance, not a cheaper way to lose money faster. Start where you’ll learn, and worry about shaving pips once you know what you’re doing.
