XM Trading Hours: Forex, Gold, Crypto and Server Time
XM's forex market runs from Monday 00:02 to Friday 23:58 server time (GMT+2, or GMT+3 in summer), crypto trades 24/7, and GOLD24-7 lets you trade gold at weekends. Here are XM's hours, the rollover and how to convert them.
XM's trading hours are set in server time, which is GMT+2 in winter and GMT+3 in summer. According to XM's Help Center, the forex market is open from Monday 00:02 to Friday 23:58, while cryptocurrencies trade 24/7, even on public holidays. XM also offers GOLD24-7, a separate gold instrument on MT5 that can be traded at weekends. Other markets follow their own sessions, which XM shows once you log in.
Your account itself is always accessible, so you can log in, deposit or request withdrawals at any time. What changes is when each market can be traded.
| Server time | GMT+2 (winter), GMT+3 (summer) |
|---|---|
| Forex | Monday 00:02 to Friday 23:58 server time |
| Crypto | 24/7, including public holidays |
| GOLD24-7 | 7 days a week (MT5) |
| Spot gold, indices, stocks | Their own sessions, shown after login |
| Triple swap | Wednesday |
XM trading hours by market
| Market | When you can trade | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Forex | Monday 00:02 to Friday 23:58 (server time) | Spreads can widen near the session end |

XM says you can see all trading hours for an instrument when you log in to your account, and those are the times to rely on around holidays.
Converting XM server time
Because XM moves between GMT+2 and GMT+3, the gap to your local time changes twice a year. The table converts the forex week using winter time (GMT+2).
| Server time (GMT+2) | GMT | Lagos (WAT) | Nairobi (EAT) | Karachi (PKT) | Manila (PHT) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Monday 00:02 (forex opens) | Sunday 22:02 | Sunday 23:02 | Monday 01:02 | Monday 03:02 | Monday 06:02 |
| Friday 23:58 (forex closes) | Friday 21:58 | Friday 22:58 | Saturday 00:58 | Saturday 02:58 | Saturday 05:58 |
In summer, when XM runs on GMT+3, the same server times fall one hour earlier in GMT. Our forex market hours tool shows the sessions in your own time zone.
Why XM uses GMT+2 and GMT+3
XM's Help Center explains that the server time can't be changed on MT4 or MT5, and that using this time zone avoids small candlesticks on Sundays. That keeps daily charts to five full trading days, which makes technical analysis and back-testing more straightforward, and aligns the daily close with New York.
Weekend gold with GOLD24-7
GOLD24-7 is a separate instrument from spot gold, built to keep the gold market open over the weekend. XM says that when global markets are closed, its price comes from a sentiment-driven model reflecting real-time expectations. Liquidity is lower then, spreads wider and prices can move sharply. XM's table lists an average spread of 20 and maximum leverage of 250:1, against 5.5 and 1000:1 for spot gold, and swaps are charged daily including weekends. Our XM gold guide compares the two.
Rollover and swaps
Positions held past the daily rollover earn or pay a swap. XM charges three days of swap on Wednesday, because spot forex settles two days after the trade and Wednesday's rollover covers the weekend. Futures contracts carry no swaps but close on their expiry date, and XM doesn't roll them over automatically. Our XM fees guide explains the costs.
Futures expiry and Turbo Stocks
Two XM products have built-in end times. Futures contracts expire on set dates, monthly for oil and quarterly for platinum, for example, and positions close at expiry; to keep the view, you open the next contract yourself. Turbo Stocks close automatically at the end of each trading session at the last available price, so they are strictly intraday.
Tips for trading XM's hours
- Trade forex when London and New York are open for the tightest spreads.
- Avoid opening trades right at the weekly open, when spreads are wide.
- Treat weekend crypto and GOLD24-7 as thin markets; size positions smaller.
- Check futures expiry dates before holding energy or metal futures.
- Remember XM blocks withdrawals that would drop your margin level below 400% at weekends.
Your account is always open
Markets have hours; your account doesn't. XM notes that you can always log in, and it describes withdrawals as instant and available 24/7, processed by its automated back office. Withdrawals with trades still open follow margin rules that change with the calendar: requests that would push your margin level below 150% are refused from Monday 01:00 to Friday 23:50 server time, and below 400% at weekends.
Daylight saving: the two awkward weeks
XM follows the US daylight-saving calendar, while Europe and much of the world change clocks on different dates. For a week or two each spring and autumn, the gap between XM's server time and your local time is an hour different from normal. Traders who schedule EAs or entries by local clock time should recheck their settings in March and November.
Public holidays
Crypto keeps trading on public holidays at XM, but other markets may close early or not open when their home exchange is shut. XM shows the hours for each instrument once you log in, which is where to check before a holiday. Thin holiday markets also bring wider spreads, so it's usually wise to trade smaller or not at all.
Futures and Turbo Stocks aside, nothing at XM closes on its own at the end of a session; positions carry over and pay or earn swaps. Decide before each close whether a trade should be open overnight.
Write XM's server times down in your own time zone once, including the summer change. It saves you from opening trades into the Sunday open or holding a futures position into expiry by accident.
Bilal traded gold on weekday evenings and started using GOLD24-7 on Saturdays. The spread was several times wider than spot gold, and a quiet Saturday move stopped him out. These days he only uses GOLD24-7 to manage positions over major weekend news, with half his usual size.
