XM Traders Club: How XM Coins, Status Levels and Redemption Work
XM's loyalty programme pays XM Coins on trades held longer than five minutes, with five status levels set by quarterly volume. Here is the official formula, who qualifies and how coins can be used.
XM Traders Club is XM's loyalty programme. It pays XM Coins, shortened to XMC, on real trades that stay open longer than five minutes. The number of coins depends on the trade's size in dollars, the instrument group and your status level, which is set by how much you trade each calendar quarter. Coins can be redeemed for trading bonuses at every level, and for withdrawable cash from Gold status upwards.
The details below come from the Traders Club terms published by XM Global Limited, the company licensed by Belize's Financial Services Commission. Programme terms can differ between XM entities and change over time, so check the version in your own Members Area before relying on any figure.
| Programme | XM Traders Club, coins called XMC |
|---|---|
| Status levels | Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Elite |
| Status set by | Trading volume per calendar quarter |
| Minimum trade duration | More than five minutes |
| Cash redemption | Gold status and above |
| Coin expiry | One year after they are earned |
The five status levels

| Status | Quarterly trading volume | Extra condition |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze | Up to $999,999 | None |
| Silver | From $1,000,000 | None |
| Gold | From $10,000,000 | None |
| Platinum | From $50,000,000 | At least $50,000 deposited in total |
| Elite | From $200,000,000 | At least $100,000 deposited in total |
Volume is the dollar value of what you trade, not the number of lots. One standard lot of EUR/USD at 1.17 is about $117,000 of volume, so reaching Silver's $1 million in a quarter takes roughly nine standard lots. Status is reassessed at the end of each calendar quarter, and you move down if you do not meet the volume for your level.
How coins are calculated
XM's terms give the formula: XMC = trade volume in USD × (coefficient ÷ 1,000,000) × cash-to-credit ratio. Trade volume for forex is lots × contract size × the conversion rate from the pair's margin currency to dollars. The coefficient depends on the instrument group, your status and the account type. As for the cash-to-credit ratio, it is 1 when no bonus credit was used, and lower when part of the margin came from bonus credit, because coins are only earned on the cash portion.
| Instrument group (Standard account) | Bronze | Silver | Gold | Platinum | Elite |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| FX1 | 13.0 | 16.0 | 19.0 | 23.0 | 26.0 |
| FX2 | 17.0 | 21.5 | 25.0 | 30.0 | 34.5 |
| FX3 | 50.0 | 65.0 | 80.0 | 90.0 | 100.0 |
| Precious metals | 7.5 | 9.5 | 11.5 | 13.0 | 15.0 |
| Energies | 16.0 | 20.0 | 24.0 | 28.0 | 32.0 |
Coefficients for Ultra Low accounts are lower; for example FX1 runs from 3.0 at Bronze to 6.5 at Elite, and precious metals from 1.0 to 3.0. XM lists which symbols belong to each group in the Traders Club section of its platform and in its XMC calculator.
A worked example from XM's terms
XM's own example: a Silver client on a Standard account trades 10 standard lots of CHF/JPY, which sits in the FX2 group. Volume is 10 × 100,000 × 1.14 (the CHF to USD rate used) = $1,140,000. With a coefficient of 21.5 and no credit used, the client earns 1,140,000 × 21.5 ÷ 1,000,000 = 24.51 XMC. The system rounds down to two decimal places, so 12.03954 XMC would show as 12.03.
A trader on a Standard account at Bronze status trades a pair in the FX1 group, 2 standard lots with a margin currency worth $1.17 each. Volume is about $234,000, and the coins earned are 234,000 × 13 ÷ 1,000,000 = 3.04 XMC. The same trade at Elite status would earn about twice as much, because the FX1 coefficient doubles from 13 to 26.
Who can join
- Real accounts on Standard, Micro and Ultra Low account types.
- Not available on Shares, XM Zero or swap-free accounts, according to the terms.
- Only trades held for more than five minutes count.
- Coins are earned only on trading done with your own deposited funds.
If you trade from a swap-free account, the programme does not apply. Our guide to the XM Islamic account explains XM's swap-free options.
Redeeming coins
| Redemption option | Who can use it | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Trading bonus (credit) | All statuses on Standard and Micro | Not available on Ultra Low accounts |
| Withdrawable cash | Gold, Platinum and Elite | Paid to your account balance |
| Other promotions and rewards | Depends on status | Some rewards come from third-party merchants |
Redemptions are in whole coins only. XM's terms do not state the exchange rate between coins and dollars; the Members Area shows it when you redeem, so check it there rather than relying on figures quoted elsewhere.
The catch with bonus credit
Coins redeemed as a trading bonus become credit in your account. Under the terms, the bonus can be used for trading but cannot be withdrawn, and any withdrawal of funds removes credit in proportion to the amount withdrawn. Credit also lowers the cash-to-credit ratio on later trades, which reduces the coins those trades earn. For most traders, the cash option from Gold status is the only route to money that leaves the account freely.
Expiry and losing status
Coins expire one year after they are earned. Status is checked each quarter, and falling short of your level's volume means demotion. Platinum and Elite clients also receive a free VPS service, which they lose if demoted. Plan redemptions so coins do not expire unused, and do not trade extra volume just to keep a status.
Is it worth chasing?
For traders who already trade regularly, the programme returns a small amount on activity they were doing anyway. It is not a reason to trade more. The spread and risk on extra trades taken to earn coins usually cost far more than the coins are worth. Our forex loyalty bonus comparison sets XM's programme beside other brokers' schemes.
Check the coins credited against XM's formula once, using a recent trade. It confirms your account type and instrument group are what you think they are.
Loyalty programmes are not available to retail clients of every XM entity. The terms above belong to XM Global Limited; your account's entity may differ.
Figures are from XM Global Limited's Traders Club terms. XM can change the programme; the terms and XMC calculator in your Members Area are the authority for your account.
Frequently asked
What is XM Traders Club?
XM's loyalty programme. Real accounts earn XM Coins (XMC) on trades held over five minutes, with five status levels from Bronze to Elite set by quarterly trading volume. Coins can be redeemed for trading bonuses, and for cash from Gold status.
How are XM Coins calculated?
XM's terms use: XMC = trade volume in USD × (coefficient ÷ 1,000,000) × cash-to-credit ratio. The coefficient depends on the instrument group, your status and account type. For example, 10 lots of CHF/JPY at Silver earned 24.51 XMC in XM's own example.
What volume do I need for XM Gold status?
At least $10 million of trading volume in a calendar quarter, according to the terms. Silver needs $1 million, Platinum $50 million plus $50,000 in total deposits, and Elite $200 million plus $100,000 in deposits.
Can I withdraw XM Coins as cash?
Only from Gold status upwards, according to the terms. Bronze and Silver clients can redeem coins as trading bonus credit, which can be traded but not withdrawn, and which is removed proportionally when you withdraw funds.
Which XM accounts are eligible?
Standard, Micro and Ultra Low accounts. The terms exclude Shares, XM Zero and swap-free accounts. Ultra Low accounts cannot redeem coins to trading bonuses.
Do XM Coins expire?
Yes. The terms say coins expire one year after they are earned. Status is also reassessed every quarter, so redeem coins before they expire and check your status at each quarter end.
