A Cent account is a live account that counts in cents instead of dollars. Deposit $50 with Vantage and your balance reads 5,000. Trades are denominated in US dollar cents, shown as USC, so profits, losses and margin are all one hundredth of what the same trade would be on a standard account.

Vantage sets the minimum deposit at USD 50. Spreads start from 0.0 and the comparison table on its accounts page lists commission as from $0 to $3. The smallest trade is 0.01 lot. New Cent accounts are opened on MT5 through the client portal or the Vantage App, because Vantage stopped creating Cent accounts on MT4.

How the cent maths works

Everything is divided by 100. One standard lot of EUR/USD normally moves about $10 for each pip. On a cent account the same lot moves about 10 cents. The smallest position, 0.01 lot, moves about a tenth of a cent per pip, which lets you run a real trade with real execution for almost nothing.

How the cent maths works. 0.01 lot: About $0.001: About $0.02; 0.10 lot: About $0.01: About $0.20; 1.00 lot: About $0.10: About $2; 5.00 lots: About $0.50: About $10

Those figures follow from the cent denomination: we took the usual $10 per pip on a standard lot and divided by 100. Check the contract size in MT5's symbol specification before your first trade, since that window is the authority for your account.

Why the balance looks so large

A $50 deposit appears as 5,000. Put in $200 and you see 20,000. Vantage describes this as trading in the thousands, and says the display helps newcomers get used to large numbers. It does feel different to watch 5,000 move instead of 50.

Keep one thing straight. The big number is not more money. When your terminal shows a loss of 300, you have lost $3. Write your journal in dollars so the display doesn't flatter your results, or frighten you about them.

Who the Cent account is for

  • Beginners moving from demo to live who want real emotions at low stakes.
  • Traders with less than about $200, for whom a standard 0.01 lot is too large.
  • EA users who want to test a robot on a live server before funding it properly.
  • Anyone trying a new strategy who would like to pay cents for the lesson.

The second group gains the most. On a standard account with $50, a 20-pip stop at 0.01 lots risks about $2, or 4% of the balance. Held in a Cent account, the same $50 can risk 50 cents by trading 0.25 lots, which is exactly 1%. You get proper position sizing on a balance that couldn't support it otherwise.

Vantage's deposit bonus terms say only STP and ECN account types qualify. A Cent account may therefore miss out on promotions. That is no loss for a learner, since bonus credit and beginner risk are a poor mix, but check the client portal if a promotion matters to you.

Costs on a Cent account

Costs shrink with the trade. If a standard-lot round turn cost $6 in commission, the cent equivalent would be 6 cents. Vantage's table gives the Cent commission as a range from $0 to $3, and spreads from 0.0, without publishing a per-symbol breakdown on the pages we read. Open the commission column in your MT5 history after a few trades to see what your account is charged.

Swaps apply to positions held overnight, as on any account, and they are also in cents. Deposits are free at Vantage's end. Withdrawals are free except by international bank transfer, which costs 20 units of the account currency, and the minimum withdrawal is $30 unless your balance is lower.

With a $50 balance, a $20 wire fee would take 40% of your money. Use the method you deposited with, or another fee-free option, when you withdraw from a small account.

Limits to keep in mind

A cent account is a training ground, not a place to grow a large balance. Profits are small by design. A $5 gain on a Cent account takes the same skill as a $500 gain on a standard one, and that is the point: you prove the skill first.

The account type, currency and platform can't be changed after creation. You can't convert a Cent account into Raw ECN later. Vantage lets you hold up to 20 live accounts, so the path forward is to open a second account and move your money by internal transfer.

Leverage options run from 1:100 to 1:2000 across Vantage accounts. On a Cent account, high leverage is even more tempting because the numbers look harmless. Pick the lowest setting. Our Vantage leverage guide explains why the setting matters less than your position size.

How to open a Cent account

  1. Register with Vantage and complete verification.
  2. In the client portal or the app, choose to open a new live account.
  3. Select MT5 as the platform and Cent as the account type.
  4. Deposit at least USD 50.
  5. Log in to MT5 with the details emailed to you and check that the balance is shown in USC.

Current clients skip the first step and add the Cent account alongside what they already hold. Documents and timings are covered in our Vantage account opening guide.

When to graduate

Set a rule before you start. For example: fifty trades on the Cent account, following a written plan, with risk held at 1% per trade. If you finish with your rules intact, open a Standard STP or Raw ECN account and repeat the same plan at 0.01 lots. Anyone who broke the rules should stay where the mistakes cost cents.

Results matter less than behaviour at this stage. A trader who loses 3% over fifty disciplined trades is closer to success than one who doubles a cent balance with oversized bets. Our Vantage account types guide compares the accounts you would move up to.

Keep your trading journal in dollars and percentages. It makes the jump to a standard account feel like a change of scale, not a change of game.

I rate cent accounts above demos for anyone who has finished the basics. The fills are real and so is the sting of a loss, yet a bad week costs a dollar or two. Vantage's version asks $50, which is fair.

Illustrative case: Kofi, 24, Kumasi

Kofi deposited $50 and saw 5,000 USC in MT5. He traded 0.20 lots of EUR/USD with 25-pip stops, risking about 50 cents a trade, or 1%. After 50 trades he was down $1.80 but had followed his plan on 46 of them. He opened a Standard STP account the following month with $250.

Frequently asked

What is a Vantage Cent account?

It is a live account whose balance and trades are denominated in US cents. A $50 deposit shows as 5,000 cents, and profit, loss and margin are one hundredth of a standard account's.

What is the minimum deposit for the Cent account?

USD 50, according to Vantage's Help Centre and accounts page. The account trades only in US dollar cents.

Is the Cent account on MT4 or MT5?

New Cent accounts are created on MT5 through the client portal or the Vantage App. Cent accounts are no longer available for new creation on MT4, though existing ones remain active.

Is a Cent account real money?

Yes. It is a live account with real deposits, real execution and real profit and loss. Only the unit changes, from dollars to cents.

Can I convert my Cent account to Raw ECN?

No. Vantage doesn't change an account's type after creation. Open a new Raw ECN or Standard STP account and transfer your funds internally.

Can I use an EA on a Cent account?

Vantage allows expert advisors on MT5, so a Cent account is a low-cost way to test one on a live server. Exploitative strategies barred by the client agreement remain prohibited.
