Forex Brokers That Accept M-Pesa in Kenya: How to Check and What to Compare
M-Pesa funding is offered by several brokers licensed by Kenya's Capital Markets Authority. Here is how to confirm a broker's licence, check its M-Pesa limits and fees on its Kenyan site, and avoid unlicensed platforms.
Several brokers licensed by Kenya's Capital Markets Authority offer M-Pesa for deposits and withdrawals, which makes funding a trading account as quick as sending money to a friend. The safest way to choose one is in two steps: confirm the broker's Kenyan company on the CMA's public register, then read the M-Pesa limits, fees and processing times on that company's Kenyan website or help centre.

We do not repeat each broker's M-Pesa limits here, because they change and differ by account type. Instead, this page shows the 14 licensees on the CMA register, how to read their payment pages, and what to compare.

How to confirm M-Pesa for a broker
- Find the broker's Kenyan website, usually ending in .co.ke or .ke, or its Kenyan help centre.
- Check that the company named in the website footer matches a name on the CMA register.
- Open the deposits or payment methods page and look for M-Pesa.
- Read the minimum and maximum per transaction, fees and processing times for deposits and withdrawals.
- Make a small test deposit and withdrawal before funding fully.
Exness's Kenyan help centre, for example, publishes a guide titled "How do I deposit and withdraw with M-Pesa in Kenya". Other licensees publish similar pages; if a broker does not mention M-Pesa on its Kenyan site, ask its support team before assuming it is available.
What to compare
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Licensed entity | The CMA licence only covers the Kenyan company named on the register |
| Deposit and withdrawal limits | Daily M-Pesa limits and broker caps can restrict larger accounts |
| Fees | Broker fees plus Safaricom's own charges |
| Exchange rate | The shilling-to-dollar rate used on each transaction |
| Processing time | Instant deposits are common; withdrawals vary |
| Name matching | Withdrawals usually go only to an M-Pesa line in your own name |
The exchange rate is part of the cost
Trading accounts are usually in US dollars, so every M-Pesa deposit and withdrawal is converted. The rate a broker or its payment provider uses can differ from the interbank rate, and the gap is a cost on every transaction. Compare the shilling amount for the same dollar deposit across methods, and keep the records for tax; our guide to forex trading tax in Kenya lists what to keep.
A trader in Mombasa wants to fund a $200 account. One CMA-licensed broker's M-Pesa page shows instant deposits with no broker fee; the shilling amount charged works out at a rate slightly worse than the bank's. A bank transfer would take a day and carry a bank fee. The trader chooses M-Pesa for speed, makes a $20 test withdrawal first, and records the rate used on each transaction.
Red flags
- A "broker" that asks you to send M-Pesa to a personal phone number or agent.
- Company names that do not appear on the CMA register.
- Promises of fixed daily or monthly returns.
- Withdrawals that require extra "tax" or "unlocking" payments first.
- Pressure from a WhatsApp or Telegram "account manager".
The CMA has repeatedly cautioned the public about unlicensed online forex trading. Our scam broker list shows how such platforms typically work.
Deposit limits and larger accounts
M-Pesa has its own transaction and daily limits set by Safaricom, and brokers often add their own maximum per deposit. For small and medium accounts that is rarely a problem; traders funding larger accounts may need several transactions or a bank transfer. Check both sets of limits before planning a large deposit, and remember that withdrawals may also be capped per transaction.
Questions to ask a broker before depositing
- Which company will hold my account, and what is its CMA licence number?
- What are the M-Pesa minimum and maximum per deposit and withdrawal?
- Does the broker charge a fee, and what exchange rate is used?
- How long do M-Pesa withdrawals take, and can profits be withdrawn by M-Pesa?
- What documents are needed before the first withdrawal?
Withdrawals to M-Pesa
Brokers usually send withdrawals back to the same method used to deposit, up to the amount deposited, with profits sent by the same or another verified method. Your M-Pesa line normally has to be registered in the same name as your trading account. Complete identity verification before your first withdrawal to avoid delays.
When to trade from Kenya
Kenya is on East Africa Time. The London and New York overlap, the busiest window, runs from 15:00 to 19:00 or 16:00 to 20:00 Nairobi time depending on the season. Our page on forex market hours in Kenya lists every session.
Screenshot the CMA register entry and the broker's M-Pesa terms on the day you open your account. If terms change later, you will know what you signed up to.
A licence held by a broker's Kenyan company does not cover accounts opened with its offshore entities. Make sure your account is with the licensed Kenyan company if local regulation matters to you.
